‘Loose lips’ fail to sink County Limerick leisure centre

This is a popular centre which provides a positive and therapeutic outlet for people of all ages in terms of improving their mental and physical health,” he concluded. US lawmaker seeks to ban foetuses in food

first_imgAFP 27 January 2012An Oklahoma lawmaker has proposed legislation to ban any use of foetuses in food in one of the more bizarre twists in the emotive US battle over abortion. The bill comes after wild rumors began circulating online and among anti-abortion groups that soft drink giant, Pepsi, was using aborted foetuses in its products. The company has denounced the urban legend as completely false. “PepsiCo does not conduct or fund research that utilises any human tissue or cell lines derived from embryos,” spokesman Peter Land told AFP. The rumours were originally triggered by a patent application by a Pepsi supplier which cited the use of the HEK293 cell line in developing processes for an artificial taste-tester. Originally derived from the kidneys of an aborted foetus in the 1970s, HEK293 is an easy-to-clone line of cells widely used in biotech research. Oklahoma state senator Ralph Shortey said he has been researching the issue for about a year and is concerned there are no rules preventing the use of embryonic stem cells or fetal tissue in food and other products. He introduced the bill in order to raise public awareness and preventing companies from engaging in any such “immoral” practices in his central plains state. “It’s not like I think companies are chopping up foetuses and using them as ingredients in food,” Shortey said in a telephone interview. But Shortey alleged the patent is proof that the supplier – Senomyx – has crossed a moral line by using “kidneys from aborted foetuses” as “taste receptors” to see how the cells respond to different artificial flavoring. “How ethical is it to use what I consider a destroyed human life to make food taste better,” he said.http://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/news/article.cfm?c_id=2&objectid=10781597last_img read more

Kawhi Leonard free agency: NBA champ will take announcement into weekend, report says

first_img#KawhiWatch continues. At least into the weekend. Leonard’s camp has made sure the process remains a private one, even going so far as warning teams against leaking information. According to an ESPN report, his camp warned prospective teams if information on their meetings got out, they would be “really imperiling” their chance to sign Leonard, who led the Raptors to their first NBA championship this past season. The three-time All-Star played an integral role, averaging 30.5 points with 9.1 assists per game during the postseason. According to a report from Cris Carter of FS1, Kawhi Leonard is still undecided when it comes to his looming free agency decision.Carter, who has ties to Leonard’s camp, also addressed the rumors about Leonard signing a one- to two-year deal, saying he’s not interested in a short-term contract. Related News #KawhiUpdate:After looking like we would find out today, we will not. Kawhi is still undecided & is not going to finalize his decision today. Also, contrary to other reports, Kawhi is NOT interested in signing a 1 or 2 year deal. When he signs, it will be a long term contract.— Cris Carter (@criscarter80) July 5, 2019Leonard has caught the attention of everybody this offseason and after almost all of the big names found their respective teams at the start of free agency, eyes — and even helicopters — are set on the NBA champion. The Lakers believe they’re “firmly in the lead” to land the star because of the “recruiting efforts and assurances made on separate fronts” by former president of basketball operations Magic Johnson and LeBron James, according to an earlier report from the New York Times.Rapper and Raptors fan Drake “is said to be mounting his own recruiting campaign on top of whatever the freshly minted champions are doing” to convince Leonard to stay, the Times’ report says. But still, the ball remains in Leonard’s court as teammates aren’t even sure where he’ll land.”I try to leave him alone because I already know the hectic process and everybody is probably blowing his phone up,” Danny Green Danny Green hasn’t spoken directly to Kawhi yet throughout this Free Agency process pic.twitter.com/KcNzd8pmxM— Yahoo Sports Canada (@YahooCASports) July 4, 2019″ target=”_blank”>said over the Fourth of July holiday. “So if I do communicate with him, it’s through his camp.
