After waiting for months to hear if and when schools will return to normal, some tri-campus students are ready to take the stands at the long-standing tradition of Notre Dame football games. Football games have been a popular event for many students and alumni alike, but with many new regulations for the pandemic, some Saint Mary’s students said they have had to make a major decision. The stadium is only allowing a 20% capacity for students and with this, there are certain rules they must abide: no tailgating, students can only be seated together if they are a part of a household unit, households are seated 6 feet away from everyone else, masks are required and more. Students who buy tickets but cannot attend games due to cancellation or being moved off campus will be refunded, the email said.Tickets this year cost $250 and do not include the Syracuse game on Dec. 5, since it is being played after the semester has concluded. With so much change and uncertainty for what the semester still holds, many students said they were hesitant in their purchasing decision. Ashley Lurquin, a sophomore, decided to opt-out of buying tickets this year.“I just didn’t think it would be worth spending that much money for five games that I can’t really see my friends at,” she said. “It would feel more like attendance than an actual football game, if that makes sense. If I can’t really sit with all my friends tailgating or even in the game, I just don’t see the point.” Luruqin intends to watch the games on her personal TV with her close friends this season. For others, like sophomore Sophia Fleming, their love for the team is what’s ultimately lead buying season tickets. Fleming said the fun outweighs the regulations. “I want to have fun and experience the tradition,” she said. ”The prices weren’t bad, and I would pay for the tickets no matter the price. … I wish there weren’t regulations, but I want to go to games and I would do whatever it takes to be able to go.” Despite buying tickets or not, students said they understand the need for these regulations and feel they can’t be ignored. Senior Kelsey Mayti said the regulations make the tickets not worth the money. “I always knew deep down that it wouldn’t go completely back to normal, but I just can’t imagine myself going with all these rules in place,” she said. “I think being off-campus or even going home to watch games with friends and family freely would just be more relaxed than what they want us to do.”For Fleming, the being in the stands, shoulder-to-shoulder screaming and chanting for the Notre Dame football team is an experience that cannot be easily explained or recaptured, despite the circumstances.Tags: COVID-19, fall 2020, Notre Dame football, ticket sales
The State Inspectorate closed over 20 restaurants contrary to the instructions of the Ministry of Tourism and the decisions of the Civil Protection Headquarters
“Yesterday, state inspectors banned work for 30 days and sealed over 20 restaurants in Zagreb, Rijeka and other cities for issuing food in front of restaurants. Tekka, Rustica, Čingač and many others were closed. This process will cause several hundred more unnecessarily lost jobs”Said Vedran Jakominić, member of the Board of Directors of GLAS PODUZETNIKA and Vice President of the National Association of Caterers. The time has long come to reset the entire State, let alone after this crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic. To avoid a potential lawsuit, I will write a review on this topic, when the emotions calm down a bit. And Jakominić rightly asks: Entrepreneurs, do you feel protected? Do you feel calm and secure when representatives of the inspectorate, tax administration, customs or representatives of the Ministry of the Interior come to your premises? When they come to your shabby offices where you spend most of your working day and do your best to do everything by law, do you book by regulations? Do you feel safe and protected when you need advice, suggestion, or when reading laws that concern you? Do you have the peace of mind that, when you do all the best you know, in accordance with everything you have managed to find out, when representatives of the Government come, who are there to ensure the functioning of society on our behalf, to correct you where you are wrong, refer you to protocols and procedures and clarify unknowns? We long for Croatia 2.0. in which the job of the state and its bodies is to perform the joint affairs of its citizens, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia and for the benefit of all its citizens – equally, concludes Jakominić. For further interpretation in accordance with the actions of the inspectorate contrary to such a recommendation of the COMPETENT MINISTRY, the CZRH Headquarters did not respond to inquiries from the Voice of Entrepreneurs Association, despite the fact that the coordinator of the Headquarters was Mr. Karas on April 02.04.2020, XNUMX. stressed the importance of a clear and unambiguous interpretation, and that he would ask the Headquarters to do the same. So, all the mentioned restaurants acted on the instructions of the Ministry of Tourism and respecting all safety protocols, and we have documented correspondence for that. Why are we asking for this? Because they acted contrary to the instructions of the competent ministry and because they did not report the possible incorrect interpretation of their superior ministry, requested correction and informed people who risked their health in the field by acting contrary to the expert instructions of the epidemiological service. Because they either arbitrarily punished in this insane situation, or if they didn’t, they allowed thousands of restaurant workers across the country to work outside the safety conditions provided for them by the expert team of people managing this crisis. We insist that all sentences imposed in these and such situations be annulled immediately, and that the facilities be provided with safe operation. We also demand that public sector officials include a novelty in their actions, which is working in harmony and cooperation with entrepreneurs, and not harassing, humiliating and punishing people who not only feed the private sector, but also fill the state coffers. in a statement by the Voice of Entrepreneurs Association. Immediately after the CZRH decision was made, an inquiry was sent to the address of the Ministry of Tourism related to this situation, and an official response was received at 15:20 pm on March 19.3.2020, XNUMX. year reads: “The customer can pick up the ordered food in person on the doorstep of the facility or in its immediate vicinity. ” Voice of Entrepreneurs Association: We ask that inspectors respond to such actions away from serviceThe Voice of Entrepreneurs Association hereby requests that in accordance with the interests of our country, inspectors responsible for such actions and their superiors who gave them such a task be removed from office, and that they be assigned to jobs according to their real abilities or finally share the fate of those in whose interest work and to become part of unemployment statistics. The conclusion is that the formation of the Inspectorate, which jointly took over the inspection activities instead of the competent ministries, was a hasty decision for which no competencies were provided, since the Inspectorate acts contrary to the only valid interpretation of the competent ministry, which is superior to the inspectorate. After the establishment of the inspectorate, it was promised that before its entry into force, all relevant regulations would be clearly stated on their website – however, that promise was not fulfilled! It is promised that the advisory role will first be occupied, which will warn first! “In the most difficult moment for small entrepreneurs, the inspectorate does just the opposite and adds a new layer of insecurity to the tray of perpetually exposed entrepreneurs. We are facing a gradual normalization with additional conditions. Can we trust the Inspectorate to ensure uniform and clear treatment in the best interests of all citizens – even those who pay taxes? To comply with all available information, a “reward” of 30 days of closed facility and an as yet unknown amount of the fine will follow! ” Jakominić points out Article 49 of the Croatian Constitution states: “Entrepreneurial and market freedom are the foundation of the economic structure of the Republic. The state ensures all entrepreneurs an equal legal position on the market. Monopolies are forbidden. The Republic encourages economic progress and social well-being of its citizens and takes care of the economic development of all its regions.” Yesterday, over 20 restaurants in the entire territory of Croatia were closed for 30 days due to the issuance of food in front of the facilities or which was taken to the car. Insights into the minutes of the State Inspectorate, the decisions state that Article 9a of the Law on Catering Activity has been violated, ie that it is a matter of ‘Acting contrary to the decision of the CZRH Headquarters’. I don’t know how to write this article without using a whole range of derogatory words, because in the current situation, for someone to take the right to interpret the laws as he wants, despite the instructions of the MINT and the decisions of the Civil Protection Headquarters, it really is for the category: Is this possible? The state inspectorate banned the operation and sealed over 20 restaurants, thus directly ignoring the recommendations of the Ministry of Tourism. Photo: Pexels.com
