Tumolo joins Florida as assistant coach

first_img Facebook Twitter Google+ Michelle Tumolo, one of the greatest players in Syracuse women’s lacrosse history and a 2012 Tewaaraton Trophy finalist, is heading to Florida, where she will serve as an assistant coach for the Gators.“When I thought about my dream job coming right out of graduation to become a college lacrosse coach, I could never have imagined the opportunity to work for one of the most successful athletic programs in the country,” Tumolo said in a release by the UF athletic department.Tumolo was the Big East Attack Player of the Year in 2012 and first-team all-conference in 2011, 2012 and 2013. Her playing career was cut short last season when she tore her ACL in a win over Cornell with four games left in the regular season. She ranks third all-time for the Orange in scoring with 278 points, second in career assists with 137 and fifth in goals with 141.During her junior season, Tumolo helped guide SU to the national championship game. In the final four, Syracuse faced Florida and rallied from a seven-goal deficit to beat the Gators in double overtime and advance to the title game. The Orange also faced UF twice last season, once in a regular season game in Miami and again in the NCAA tournament. SU lost the first matchup with Tumolo on the field, but defeated Florida in the Carrier Dome in the postseason to advance to the final four for the second straight season.AdvertisementThis is placeholder textSaid Gators head coach Amanda O’Leary in the release: “To have a player who has led her team to multiple Final Fours now on our staff will be beneficial as we continue to represent the University of Florida at the highest level.” Comments Published on August 9, 2013 at 12:14 pm Contact David: [email protected] | @DBWilson2last_img read more
