Psychiatric evaluation and diagnosis ofpsychiatric disorders and Substance Abuse Evaluations. Works withmulti-disciplinary team in the Emergency Department to providequality psychiatric service. Obtains all insurance authorizationsnecessary to treat patients. Knowledgeable of Mental HealthResources in Maryland and proficient in formulating andimplementing treatment and disposition plans. Documents allclinical activity in accordance with Johns Hopkins, and State ofMarylandregulations.DutiesandResponsibilities:Responds in timely manner to request from EmergencyDepartment Physician for psychiatricConsultation.Performs psychiatric assessment, formulates diagnosisand in consultation with referring physician recommends andcompletes appropriatedisposition.Discusses case with Attending Physician to determineif the patient has been cleared medically and to determine why aconsult isrequested.Provides requesting physician with results ofassessment and dispositionplan.Reviewschart, obtains all insurance authorizations necessary beforeproviding service topatient.Contacts necessary insurance providers’ and obtainsauthorizations needed to complete disposition and documents inchart.Interview patient and performs psychosocialassessment, mental status examination and past psychiatrichistory.Contacts family or any collateral informantsnecessary to provide information necessary to complete anassessment.Formulates an appropriate treatment/disposition planfor patient.Develops knowledge base of Mental Health ServiceSystem necessary to make the most appropriate clinicaldisposition.Effectively troubleshoots all systems when problemsarise in effecting a clinically necessarydisposition.Assuresthat all appropriate documentation is complete according tostandards to carry out treatment/dispositionplan.Completes all contacts necessary to arrange forappropriate disposition of case and independently resolves problemswith complicateddispositions.Isaware of time constraints of patient flow in the emergencydepartment and paces wore accordingly; and consistently evaluatesall patients duringshift.Provides appropriate sign out either verbally orwritten on clinical and disposition status of patients to nextshift staffmember.Worksas a Team Member with all members of the Evening/Weekend EmergencyConsultationteam.Attendsall Staff meetings and administrative meetings asassigned.Develops and maintains collegial working relationshipwith all EDStaff.Documentation:Provides documentation of all clinical andnonclinicalactivities.Maintains client files in appropriate manner andcomplies with Johns Hopkins accepted record keepingpractices.Chartsare above 85% complete at chartreviews.Knowledgeable and can implement all State of Maryland/Insurance/ and Federal mandateddocumentation.Documents clinical assessment of all clientsevaluated on the JHH StandardPES.Evaluation form. Assessment information on PES has95% completionrate.Documents all activities according tostandards.This is a required attendance,onsite, clinical operationsposition.MinimumQualifications:Master’s degree from a program accredited by theCouncil on Social Work Education or an equivalent organizationapproved by the Council on Social Work Education. Licensed as aLMSW in the State of Maryland. Two (2) years emergency room orpediatrics social work experience. Must complete sufficientcontinuing medical education (CME) credits to satisfy Marylandlicense/license renewal requirements.Must maintain current licensureand certification during duration ofemployment.Additional Knowledge, Skills, andAbilities:Workrequires the knowledge of theories, principles, and conceptstypically acquired through completion of a Master’s degree inSocial Work.Workrequires the analytical skills to resolve problems that require theuse of basic scientific, mathematical, or technicalprinciples.Workrequires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and inwriting and provide empathy in difficult interpersonalsituations.Workrequires occasionally using a keyboard to interact with computersystem.Workrequires proofreading and/or reviewingdocuments.PhysicalRequirements:Sitting, standing and walking for extended period.Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Fingerdexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather thanwith whole hand(s) or arm(s).
