Increased taxes for sailors harm Croatian tourism

first_imgA session of the Executive Board of the Croatian Employers’ Association of the Nautical Sector Association was held at the Croatia Boat Show to discuss the adoption of the Maritime Property and Seaports Act, the increase in sojourn tax for boaters and the results of a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Tourism. and when purchasing a vessel on lease.Roko Vuletić, President of the Executive Board, commented on the round table on the Law on Maritime Property and Seaports organized by the Association of the Nautical Sector, where representatives of the ministry announced some changes that are positive for nautical. For example, the abolition of the variable part of the concession fee, and the compensation of the old concessionaire in a certain percentage of the investment in certain cases. Regarding the issue of the commercial part of sports ports, a modality is required that would minimize the possibilities of manipulation. With regard to the commercial activity of ports open to public traffic, efforts will be made to reduce the percentage of such commercialization. When the working group adopts the draft law, it should go through the consultation procedure when the association has the opportunity to act with its comments, which is provided for in III. quarter of this year, Vuletic pointed out.Igor Mihajlov commented on the adoption of amendments to the Maritime Code, which does not sufficiently deal with nautical. “The amendments will address the issue of legal certainty and standardization of contracts specific to nautical activities. The intention is to apply general, legally established rules and provisions in the event that there are no concluded agreements, and in order to minimize the possibilities of interpretation of the rights and obligations of the opposing parties. ”  Mihajlov pointed out. All present agreed to  organizes a round table on this topic at the next nautical fair, to which all representatives of marinas should be invited, for whom this segment is very important. The Minister of Tourism did not attend the meeting held by the Croatian Employers’ Association with the Ministry of Tourism regarding the enormous increase in the sojourn tax for boaters. The proposal of the Nautical Sector Association is reduction of the lump sum of the sojourn tax for boaters because on the example of only three marinas that have 54 canceled ships in the three months of application of the Regulation, harmful effects on nautical tourism can be seen. Also, it is also considered wrong  imposed obligation for marinas to collect the sojourn tax. Next week, if there are no changes in the desired direction, HUP will launch a stronger campaign to reduce the sojourn tax for sailors, enable the payment of sojourn tax per day for all categories, and equalize sailors with property owners in terms of lump sum sojourn tax.Related news:THE NEGATIVE CONSEQUENCES OF THE DRASTIC INCREASE IN THE RESIDENCE TAX IN NAUTICS ARE ALREADY FEELED ON THE FIELD, AND WILL ONLY BE FELTRESEARCH ON CAPACITY AND BUSINESS OF NAUTICAL TOURISM PORTS, 2017THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA ADOPTED THE DECREE ON DETERMINING THE AMOUNT OF RESIDENCE TAX FOR 2018&lt;/p&gt;<br />

Lancashire win the County Championship again – on points

first_img Lancashire have the English County Championship back in their grasp after a dramatic final day at Minchinhampton when they not only needed to win their match but to accumulate as many points in doing so.They did just that, overcoming Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Channel Islands 6½ – 2½ while Devon beat Leicestershire and Rutland 5½ – 3½ to finish second place. In the end both counties had two match wins so the verdict went to game points with Lancashire gaining 15½ to Devon’s 14.It is Lancashire’s 11th County Championship overall and their third in the past six years and their captain Paul Williams, in his first year as captain, was naturally delighted with his side’s success.“It has been a fantastic experience being involved with a team that’s friendly and full of spirit,” he said. “We knew what we had to do and after a tie in the foursomes so I loaded by experienced players at the back in the singles and all produced.“I wanted Haydn McCullen to show he was No.1 and he has made it a hat-trick. He won the Lancashire county and boys championships and now the English County title.“Also, Sean Towndrow holed a six foot clutch putt on the final green this morning to earn us a half. Without that we could have lost momentum so I’m really pleased for him.“But it’s been a good year for me. We‘ve won the Northern League and now this but everyone has pulled together.”After being held 1½ – 1½ in the morning foursomes, the North Region champions knew they needed as many game points as they could get from the six singles. There was little to separate the players in any of the games in the early stages but as the afternoon wore on so Lancashire gradually assumed control.Haydn McCullen gave them a great start with a 3 and 2 win over Hampshire’s Harry Ellis, who found himself 5-down after 12 holes but strung together three successive birdies to reduce the damage.Mark Young found himself behind early on to Ryan Henley but battled back to lead 2-up at the turn before taking advantage of the Hampshire man’s errors to win 5 and 3.Paul Howard and John Carroll both came through 3 and 2 over Elliot Groves and Gavin O’Neill respectively which meant that Sean Towndrow’s 4 and 2 defeat by Tom Robson hurt little.Devon made a great bid for the title. After taking the foursomes 2-1 against Leicestershire, they took command of the top singles and soon had three points on the board which assured them of victory in the match. But they needed also every point they could get. After leading early, Jimmy Mullen went 1-down to Colin Mitchell at the turn. But he pressed the accelerator on the back nine, regaining the lead with a birdie at the 12th then winning the 14th and 15th on his way to a 3 and 2 victory.Sam Edwards had two front nine birdies to Jonathan Herbert’s three but the Leicestershire man added a couple of bogeys to be out in level par to Edwards’ two under 33 for a 1-up lead.  Herbert fell 2-down with a double-bogey at ten while Edwards went further in front with a birdie at 13 before closing out a 2 and 1 success.David Blick also went out in 33 to be 3-up against Leicester’s Ashley Mason on his way to a 5 and 3 win, which ended when Mason lost his ball on the 15th and conceded. But they could only reap a half from the bottom three games, thanks to Dan Rosevear against Martin Anderson. The two bottom games went Leicestershire’s way through their long-serving campaigners, Steve Sansome, who won 4 and 3 against Dave Ashley, and David Gibson by 5 and 3 over Adam Bridgewater.Photo copyright Leaderboard Photography. 29 Sep 2013 Lancashire win the County Championship again – on points last_img read more

South Puget Sound Community College Awarded $500,000 Grant for Guided Pathways…

first_imgFacebook97Tweet0Pin0Submitted by South Puget Sound Community CollegeCollege Spark Washington along with the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges today awarded South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) a grant of $500,000 over five years to develop a Guided Pathways program.  Guided Pathways aims to support low-income students and students of color by helping community colleges develop clear paths to certificates, transfer degrees, or careers.College Spark Washington stated that it selected SPSCC because of the college’s commitment to student success and closing achievement gaps.  “SPSCC faculty and staff have been working hard for several years to identify and implement research-based practices that increase student success,” said SPSCC Vice President of Instruction Michelle Andreas.  SPSCC is one of five pilot colleges to receive this funding; eighteen colleges applied. The newly awarded grant will support students in the Guided Pathways Program, supporting low-income students and students of color. Photo courtesy: SPSCC“At many community colleges, students are provided with insufficient clarity on how to navigate a path,” said College Spark Washington. “The Guided Pathways Initiative aims to address this issue by reducing and simplifying the number of choices about course selection a student must make, informing and supporting those choices, and directing students into an intentional, comprehensive program of study within one or two terms.”SPSCC will receive $100,000 per year for five years to further develop the work that College Spark Washington has praised.  One of the college’s praised efforts is a pilot pathways program that intentionally drapes themes across different types of classes.  Makenzie Earlywine, a student in SPSCC’s pilot program, said, “It’s a really great way to learn with the same classmates and the same themes. It makes it a whole lot easier to learn because you’re hearing it more than once in different classes.”“The College Spark Washington grant will allow us to take the lessons learned from our pilot [pathways] program and devote time and financial resources to implement the model for all students at SPSCC,” added Andreas.  SPSCC foresees tremendous growth opportunities as a result of the funding the college will receive through 2021.last_img read more
