Lamar Jackson Establishes Himself As Heisman Favorite Through 3 Games

Last year, until LSU played Alabama, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Fournette would take home the hardware. There’s plenty of time left in this season, but after today’s game against a blue-chip laden Florida State, there is no other choice for the sport’s most prestigious award than Louisville’s Lamar Jackson.Louisville absolutely bludgeoned the No. 2 ranked Seminoles this afternoon, and once again, Jackson was the best player on the field. Despite Florida State having one of the most talented rosters in the nation, it wasn’t particularly close. Jackson completed 13-of-20 passes for 216 yards and a touchdown, and ran for 146 yards and four scores. He’s thrown for over 200 yards and rushed for over 100 in every game this year. He has 18 total touchdowns on the season, which dwarfs most full teams’ output.Lamar Jackson has accounted for 18 TDs (10 rushing/8 passing) in his first 3 games. That’s as many or more than 3 teams had in all of 2015.— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) September 17, 2016The numbers are impressive, and Jackson has highlights to match.Heisman candidates are aided by national exposure, and having Jackson appear on SportsCenter every week with eight, five, and five touchdown games is huge. Doing it against Charlotte and Syracuse was nice, but doing it in a mild upset of the nation’s No. 2 team on ABC after hosting College GameDay really kicks things into high gear.[Humor] Lamar Jackson was running all over FSU ??? pic.twitter.com/mlux7kUYLu— HIPHOPPOST (@HHPST) September 17, 2016INCREDIBLE showing from Lamar Jackson for @UofLFootball ?EVERYTHING you need to see here: pic.twitter.com/Xa0u2shf9F— ACC Digital Network (@theACCDN) September 17, 2016Lamar Jackson is good at football. But let’s talk about the FORM on that hurdle ? ?? ? #AirJackson #L1C4 pic.twitter.com/RuuufVAiPj— ACC Digital Network (@theACCDN) September 12, 2016As we’ve learned through so many college football seasons, and with Fournette just last year, Jackson’s work is far from over. Louisville has a huge trip to Clemson on October 1, and travel to Houston on November 17. As of now, however, he’s off to a faster start than anyone could’ve envisioned.Entering the day, Lamar Jackson Heisman odds were listed at +600 per OddsShark, tied with Deondre Francois and J.T. Barrett, and behind McCaffrey and Watson. Don’t expect to see him at that number for long.last_img
