first_img Melissa Rivers Sues Clinic Over Joan Rivers’ Death Switching gears to an update on one of last year’s saddest stories. Melissa Rivers is suing the Manhattan clinic where her mom Joan Rivers stopped breathing during an operation on her vocal cords. The comedy icon, Tony nominee and Broadway cheerleader died aged 81 a week later. Rolling Stone reports that the lawsuit claims that the clinic ignored advice from an anesthesiologist, performed unauthorized medical procedures and even took selfies. “Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better,” said Melissa Rivers in a statement.
